Driver announcements for the 2018 version of the Rolex 24 at Daytona are starting early this year as Lando Norris has reported that he will contest the Rolex 24 At Daytona next January (27-28). For Norris, who has tested with McLaren Honda, "the Rolex" will mark the British teenager’s maiden sportscar race, first 24 hour race and his race début in the United States.
Norris will race a United Austosports entered Ligier JS P217 with fellow Daytona “rookie” American Will Owen plus a third as yet unnamed driver. Founded in 2009 by businessman Zak Brown and Richard Dean, the U.K. based United Autosports has raced in a number of different championships, with a vast range of cars and drivers, and are reigning European Le Mans Series LMP3 champions. At Le Mans last month the trio of Filipe Albuquerque, Will Owen and Hugo de Sadeleer drove their Ligier JS P217 home to a fifth place finish in LMP2.
Norris currently lies third at the halfway point in this year’s FIA Formula 3 European Championship having claimed 10 podium finishes in the opening 15-races in what is his first full season of racing in the F3 category. Norris’ rise in motorsport includes his winning the 2016 McLaren Autosport British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Award last December.
