Infiniti has announced its advanced sports car concept is to be called the INFINITI EMERG-E. The electric car will be seen publicly for the first time at the 82nd Geneva Motor Show.
The INFINITI EMERG-E will be the first car from the brand to have not only a range-extender drivetrain offering vivid performance with zero emissions capability but also one mounted in a mid-ship package for optimal handling.
Maserati is recalling certain 2008 -2011 Grandtourismo and Granturismo Convertible models manufactured from June 2008 through March 2012 due to a faulty rear lamp assembly which may cause the rear lights to fail. Owners can contact Maserati at 1-201-816-2600.
Takuma Sato will be driving the returning Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in IndyCar. Sato drove for KV Racing last with various levels of success. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing returns to full-time IZOD IndyCar Series competition in 2012 for the first time since 2008.
ALMS Winter Test will take place at Sebring, Feb. 8-9. As of Feb. 1st there were 23 cars listed for the test session which is open to the public. Sports Car Illustrated will be on hand to cover the action for our readers.
Former Formula 1 driver Adrian Sutil was found guilty in a German court of grievous bodily harm to Renault Lotus Team executive Eric Lux as a result of a altercation in a Shanghai nightclub. Apparently, Sutil was in the process of throwing a glass of champagne on Lux. During the course of the altercation the glass broke and Lux needed two dozen stitches to repair the wounds he received. Sutil was given a 21 month suspended sentence and a $262,200 fine.
Yet another green company backed by the Obama administration has gone bust. Ener1 has filed for bankruptcy protection after its subsidiary, EnerDel received a $118 million stimulus grant from the energy department. EnerDel makes lithium-ion batteries for electric cars such as the Chevrolet Volt. EnerDel has received $55 million of the grant. Competition from China was cited as the reason for the company's failures.
Sky Sports is reporting that former Williams F1 driver Rubens Barrichello will test an IndyCar for KV Racing at next months Sebring test session. Barrichello was replaced at Williams by Bruno Senna.
Toyo Tire recalled select Toyo® Extensa® A/S tires distributed to retailers in the United States that may have been produced with a kink at the bead area of the tires. Under certain circumstances, the kink may eventually lead to a crack in the bead area, which is near the rim. If a crack develops and is left undetected, the tire may fail, potentially causing loss of vehicle control and a crash. Tires involved in the recall are Toyo® Extensa® A/S, P225/60R16 97T, Tire Id numbers 73A6H2N3809 through 73A6H2N4410.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing is adding Oriol Servia to the team full-time for the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series season. The Spaniard is coming off of an impressive 2011 season with Newman Haas Racing in which he qualified third for the Indianapolis 500, recorded eleven top-10 finishes, was one of three drivers to be running at the finish in all 17 races, led all drivers in laps completed (2,103 of 2,011) and was the only driver to finish in the top-10 in the first five races of the season. Servia finished 4th in the overall IZOD IndyCar Series championship.
