The 6 Series Gran Coupe, BMW adds two more doors to the 6 Series

BMW is out to prove that just because a car has four doors does not mean it deserves to be exiled to a Florida retirement community. The boys from Munich have added two more doors to the 6 Series coupe and have come up with the Gran Coupe, the third model in the 6 Series lineup joining the convertible and coupe.

BMW has taken the aesthetically pleasing styling of the BMW 6 Series, added two doors while keeping the design of the 6 Series Gran Coupe distinctive character low-slung appearance.

The front-end design points to BMW 6 Series identity by using model-specific electroplated bars between the air intake and foglamps along with twin round headlights with three-dimensional light rings, optional adaptive LED headlights, distinctive silhouette with flowing Coupe-style roof line and elegant take on the Hofmeister kink complete with “Gran Coupe” lettering on the C-pillar

The eye-catching rear emphasizes the width of the car, LED rear lights in an L-shape – like the BMW 6 Series Coupe and BMW 6 Series Convertible and a full-length third brake light above the rear window.

Inside there is a driver-focused cockpit with door panels flow into one another seamlessly providing a connection all the way from the instrument panel to the rear compartment. The dashboard has a flatscreen Control Display while the seating position is slightly higher than in the BMW 6 Series Coupe and BMW 6 Series Convertible.

Under the hood is BMW TwinPower Turbo technology with the six-cylinder in-line petrol engine (235 kW/320 hp) with twin-scroll turbocharging fitted to an eight-speed sports automatic transmission with a Driving Experience Control switch.

A V8 petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology with two turbochargers and High Precision Direct Petrol Injection, VALVETRONIC, 4,395 cc pushing out330 kW/450 hp at 5,500 – 6 000 rpm along with a six-cylinder in-line diesel engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology with two-stage turbocharging and common-rail direct injection are also available.

Underneath is state-of-the-art chassis technology including Electric Power Steering and Dynamic Damper Control as standard along with Integral Active Steering and Adaptive Drive available as an option. BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive will also be available in the BMW 650i Gran Coupe.

Standard equipment includes eight-speed sports automatic transmission, Auto Start-Stop function, Dynamic Damper Control, Servotronic, 18-inch light-alloy wheels, xenon headlights with LED daytime running light rings, cruise control with braking function, electrically operated, automatically folding and heated exterior mirrors, Dakota leather upholstery and heated front seats, electric seat adjustment with memory function for the driver and front passenger, 2-zone automatic climate control with extended features, automatically dimming exterior and rear-view mirrors, electric steering wheel adjustment, and the Radio Professional with HiFi loudspeaker system and USB audio interface.
