Barrett-Jackson doesn't bring a million

by Sports Car Illustrated.com Staff

Not even the mighty Barrett Jackson auction can escape the effects of the recession.  Prices were noticeably down during this year’s Scottsdale auto auction. No cars surpassed the magic million dollar 1929 Hamilton Metalplanefiqure and the auction’s top seller was an airplane.  A 1929 Hamilton Metalplane H47 Airplane went for   $671,000.00.  The two top cars were Shelby Cobras and a 64 289 Cobra going for $478,500.00 and a 63 289 Cobra selling for $401,500.00.

Other notables were a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 for $275,000.00, 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird at $286,000.00 and 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda 2 Door Hardtop went for $231,000.00.  All of these cars were pushing a million dollars two years ago.
