Hamilton dominates Spa

Hamilton jumped ahead of pole sitting Mark Webber’s Red Bull Renault going into the first turn at the start of the race on a circuit that was dry in spots and wet in spots. Fernando Alonso and his Ferrari quickly found one of those wet spots as he collided with Rubens Barrichello’s Williams Cosworth going into the chicane. Alonso was able to continue but Barrichello’s day was done.

Force India’s Vitantonio Liuzzi has moved up from 11th to 10th place in the Belgian Grand Prix results after Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari had 20 seconds added to his race time by the Spa stewards. Alguersuari was penalised for cutting the final chicane on lap 42, whilst defending from Liuzzi during their late-race battle. The Spaniard failed to surrender his position following his mistake and was deemed to have gained an advantage. He drops to 13th as a result of the penalty. With Liuzzi's team mate Adrian Sutil coming home fifth, it means both Force Indias scored points in Belgium.

Pirelli have started their first Formula One tyre development test, with former Mercedes GP reserve driver Nick Heidfeld at the wheel of a 2009 Toyota TF109. Heidfeld is to be Pirelli's official test driver as the Italian firm prepares to return to Formula One racing in 2011 as the sport’s sole supplier following an absence of 20 years. Heidfeld, who has started over 150 Grands Prix in an F1 career spanning more than ten seasons, will drive the car in a series of tests on several different circuits from August onwards, starting today (Tuesday) with a two-day session at Mugello in Italy.

Hellmund and McCombs Partners have been working on potential site development as well as event and facility infrastructure. The end result will present one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events and the first ever purpose-built Formula One facility in the United States. McCombs, a Texas business and sports icon, is the former owner of the NFL's Minnesota Vikings and the NBA's San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets. In addition, McCombs is the co-founder of Clear Channel Communications and has owned nearly 400 businesses in his career, including McCombs Automotive Group and McCombs Energy. McCombs Partners serves as the investment management division of McCombs Enterprises, the family office of Red McCombs.
